" If we have enough snow, you can ski out the back door down to the meadow and turn right to get to the little lake; it's about a mile loop around the lake.

" Birds - our back yard has been described as "sounds like Jurassic Park" in the spring due to all the songbirds (Merlin app has recorded 15 different species at one time and that didn't include the woodpeckers, grey and blue jays, cranes and eagles seen in that same time frame.
We've had generations of a family of grey jays that comes every spring/summer and will eat out of your hand; they really like Dave's Killer Bread 21 whole grains and seeds variety!
We also have resident neighborhood eagles (they had built a nest on our property line and had babies two years ago, but the nest blew over in a windstorm. Hopefully they will build another one, but they still hang out in the trees and fly around). We regularly hear the Great Horned Owls in the fall/winter and they've landed on the deck and flown overhead pretty close.
The arrival of the neighborhood cranes announce spring is here and the loons calling from the lake in the summer is relaxing.
" Wildlife- we have seen a wolf, a fox, bear, caribou, lynx and tons of moose, hares (there has been a family living on the property for the last few years and they've never bothered the garden), spruce hen and the coyotes will wake us up howling at times.
" The south facing windows equal lots of beautiful light in the house in the winter and a hot deck in summer, perfect for lounging/reading/bird watching/eating outside. We also have amazing views of the sunsets and sunrises in the winter.
" Your view will remain your view, you don't have to worry about development with the way the property lines are and the native land around the neighborhood.
" We have a large variety of trees, and most beetle kill has been removed; willow, aspen, birch, cottonwood, mountain ash, black and white spruce, alder, larch and chokecherry trees we planted (not the invasive kind). The house sits on a little hill so it's elevated into the tree line, making you feel like a part of the forest when you are sitting in the house or on the deck.
" Foraging on property-we have propagated morels, and we now get a few handfuls of them that come back each year; they are down on the slope behind the fire pit usually between the last week of May-first couple weeks of June depending on weather; high bush cranberries, fireweed, spruce tips and wild rose buds. There are also a couple haskap bushes we planted in the front that produce delicious berries if you can get to them before the birds.
" Flowers- we have wild roses, lupine, fireweed, forget-me-knots and dogwood, and a couple of wild irises next to a rock in the woods out front.
